Some are really easy to make. You wouldn’t even realize that the materials are right there in your trash. Others, however, require power tools that only the more experienced can handle. In this article, we’ll show you how to make a homemade wine rack without step-by-step instructions. We’ll let the photos speak for themselves and allow your creative juices to keep flowing.

Let’s take the image below as an example (photo by Tony & Wayne licensed under CC BY-NC 2.0):

Now that’s something average Joe can’t make without a lot of effort. The picture above is actually a wine rack made from plywood. It was designed to be modular, which means that you can scale it up or down, depending on how much space you have.

PVC Pipes

On the other hand, PVC pipes are readily available at just about every hardware or home improvement store. You can make a homemade wine rack out of them too. Head over to Martha Stewart’s page for more details (photo by Carol Von Canon licensed under CC BY-NC-ND 2.0).

  • saw/jigsaw
  • sandpaper

The picture below may just be a regular crate, but when you position it sideways and add a cover to secure the wine bottles, you’ll have a homemade wine rack that’s unique, elegant and sturdy as well. You’ll find sample photos here. Photo below by Christian Guthier licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 2.0.

Steel Rod Wine Rack

If there’s a simpler illustration on how to make a homemade wine rack, this is probably the most straightforward. Two steel rods can hold a single bottle of wine or champagne. There’s really nothing much to explain (photo by jasonwoodhead23 licensed under CC BY 2.0).

Tin Cans

Pretty much anybody can make a wine rack out of tin cans (photo by Sun Ladder licensed under CC-BY-SA 3.0):

The typical diameter of a wine bottle is about 3 inches, so you will have to find a can that’s more than 3 inches wide so that the bottle can fit freely inside it. Then when you group them together, you’ll have a wine rack that adjusts to capacity based on how many bottles you have. Apply spray paint of any desired color. You’ll find sample photos here.

You will need:

  • cans that are more than 3 inches in diameter
  • super glue
  • paint

Now, that’s essentially how to make a homemade wine rack. Quick, easy and fun!
